I’m In This For The Money says the part creative workers are often expected to hide: passion is lovely, but exposure has never paid the rent.
The slogan works as camp because it sounds shamelessly mercenary, but the joke has a real labour argument underneath it. Queer artists, performers, makers and freelancers are constantly asked to donate time, talent or visibility as though caring about the work should make payment unnecessary. Wanting to be compensated does not make the work less meaningful. It means time has value.
The bright script gives the sentence enough theatricality to keep it funny, while the underlying point remains practical: bills still arrive after the applause, and a creative career cannot survive indefinitely on compliments.
Wear it to a market, gig, rehearsal, workday, merch table, fundraiser or the meeting where somebody is about to suggest an unpaid “opportunity” with excellent networking potential. It also makes an ideal gift for freelancers, performers or the friend who has finally learned to send the invoice without apologising. The phrase can be selfish in a healthy way.
Money is not the only reason to make art, organise events or build community, but pretending it does not matter usually benefits the person who was hoping not to pay. Be passionate. Be brilliant. Get compensated.

This Queer In The World Original Design is printed to order, so please allow around 2-5 business days for production before dispatch. Making each piece only after it is ordered helps avoid overproduction and unsold inventory, and orders are fulfilled regionally where possible to reduce unnecessary travel. If your order includes other items, they may be produced separately and arrive in more than one parcel.
