Butch lesbians have more than one flag, which feels appropriate for an identity that was never waiting for a committee to make it official.
You can choose between two widely circulated butch Pride designs: the cool-toned flag attributed to Tumblr user dorian-rutherford in 2016 and the warm-toned design published by the Tumblr community butchspace in 2017. Both now circulate as visible symbols of butch and non-femme lesbian identity.
Choose the one that feels like yours rather than looking for a single authorised answer. Butch identity has always held room for different relationships to masculinity, womanhood, gender nonconformity and lesbian community, and the two flags make that plurality visible instead of pretending one palette can settle it.
Specific butch symbols matter because lesbian visibility is often flattened into either generic rainbows or imagery that assumes femininity. Flying a butch flag makes space for lesbians whose masculinity, gender nonconformity or refusal of femme expectations is not incidental to their identity but one of the things they are proud of.
The flag is printed on SuperTex, a polyester-fibre and PVC blend, with two brass grommets for hanging. At 35.4 × 59.1 in / 90 × 150 cm, it works on a wall, balcony, Pride route or wrapped around your shoulders when subtle representation is not the assignment.
