Craig Byrnes developed the International Bear Brotherhood flag in 1995 using fur-toned stripes and a paw to celebrate diversity within bear community. Bear spaces helped widen gay ideas of desirability by making more room for bigger, older, hairier and rugged bodies mainstream gay imagery often pushed aside.
