Cock rings are one of those sex toys that look almost aggressively simple.
It is a ring. It goes around your cock. Surely humanity has solved this one.
And then you meet silicone rings, adjustable rings, cock-and-ball rings, rigid steel rings, vibrating rings, C-ring underwear and fetish gear that appears to have been designed by a horny mechanical engineer. Suddenly there are questions.
This guide answers the useful ones: what a cock ring actually does, where it goes, how tight it should feel, how to measure for one, what the different materials change, and when to take the bloody thing off. We are a queer, kink-positive sex store, so we are not going to pretend people buy cock rings exclusively as solemn medical equipment. Sometimes you want a firmer erection. During an erection, blood flows into erectile tissue in the penis. A cock ring applies pressure around the base of the penis, or around the penis and scrotum depending on the design, which slows some of the blood flowing back out. That can help an erection remain firmer for longer.

If you are buying a fixed-size ring, measure where you intend to wear it. Do not choose a diameter based on optimism, masculinity, vibes or whichever number looked impressive in the dropdown.
Wrap a soft measuring tape, strip of paper or string around the intended placement and measure the circumference. If the product gives its size as internal diameter, divide your circumference by pi, approximately 3.14, to estimate the corresponding diameter.
