Oh Deer I’m Queer turns a cartoon deer into a coming-out pun, giving Pride exactly the amount of woodland nonsense required to make the rhyme worthwhile.
Oh deer. You are queer. Terrible news for subtlety, excellent news for this extremely committed woodland pun. There is no deep symbolism hiding in the antlers and nobody needs to invent one. The whole point is that “dear” became “deer,” somebody drew the animal, and queer Pride got approximately six percent more adorable. That is enough.
Queer adults are allowed to wear stupid things that make us happy. Not every shirt has to explain Stonewall, unpack gender or announce a sexual preference in twelve-point bullet points. Sometimes Pride is a cartoon animal, a pink sentence and the confidence to commit to a joke that should probably have stayed in the forest. The deer is already here. We move forward.
