Vanessa Vanjie Mateo’s season 10 exit from RuPaul’s Drag Race should have been a thirty-second footnote: first queen eliminated, turn around, leave the stage. Instead she backed out repeating “Miss Vanjie” until the phrase detached itself from the elimination and became the joke of the season.

RuPaul kept repeating it, the internet did what the internet does, and Vanjie returned for season 11 with a catchphrase already far bigger than her season 10 screen time. The graphic gets the reference right by stacking the name three times in hot pink and white. One “Miss Vanjie” would just be text; three recreates the rhythm every Drag Race fan hears automatically.
