Gender Is A Construct. Tear It Apart. is queer theory with a crowbar.
You can spend years reading about how gender gets taught, rewarded, punished and repeated through culture, or you can put this on and let the sentence make the room slightly nervous. Calling gender a construct is not the same as saying your gender is fake. It is saying the rules around it were built by people, which means people can question them.
Who decided skirts belong here, tenderness belongs there, certain jobs are masculine, certain bodies are supposed to act one way and everybody else needs an explanation? “Tear it apart” is the deliciously dramatic response to that entire inherited mess. Not because nobody should have gender, but because nobody should have to obey somebody else’s version of it to count.
This belongs at Pride, campus, galleries, queer theory nights, bookshops, art events and the family dinner where somebody has mistaken tradition for natural law. The portrait gives the slogan a human face, which matters because all the theory eventually lands on actual people trying to live. Wear it if you like your ideas with some teeth.
You can keep the parts of gender that feel like home. The rest is architecture. Renovation is allowed.

This Queer In The World Original Design is printed to order, so please allow around 2-5 business days for production before dispatch. Making each piece only after it is ordered helps avoid overproduction and unsold inventory, and orders are fulfilled regionally where possible to reduce unnecessary travel. If your order includes other items, they may be produced separately and arrive in more than one parcel.
