Gay Trash takes self-deprecation, puts it in bold type and makes sure the person wearing it is the one holding the joke.
“Trash” changes meaning when it is self-authored. In queer camp, exaggerating an insult can drain it of some of its authority and turn it into a private joke about taste, chaos, nightlife or the questionable decisions your chosen family already knows about. This version keeps the phrase blunt and playful rather than treating it as a serious judgement of gay people.
Reclamation is personal, so the shirt works best for somebody who actually enjoys the wording and understands the difference between laughing at yourself and giving outsiders permission to demean you.
