The purple circle is one of the clearest queer symbols of wholeness, bodily autonomy and refusing to be 'fixed'.
Morgan Carpenter created the intersex flag in 2013 using a golden-yellow field and unbroken purple circle as a symbol grounded in intersex movement history rather than gender stereotypes. The circle came to represent wholeness, completeness, potentiality and bodily autonomy.
The intersex design is unusually strong as enamel jewellery because the yellow field and purple circle are so clean and graphic. It looks polished on blazers, bags and lanyards while keeping the identity out of medical-symbol territory.
Intersex people deserve beauty, culture and Pride around their identity, not only forms, diagnoses and medical conversations. The purple circle belongs on jewellery too.
